First meeting with its lawyer.
· Treat your first meeting like a business meeting. Be polite and courteous.
Try to impress the lawyer, just as much as he will try to impress you.
· Give the lawyer the chance to end up knowing you. Often, a lawyer will want to obtain basic information and to draw the root of the problem. This occasion will provide to you both the chance to evaluate you.
· Let the lawyer start to speak. You will have the entire information which you wish to clear up, but the lawyer will be able to better rectify the basic facts if he feels that they are suitable or important.
· During your initial consultation, share all suitable information with lawyer. Honesty is in your best interest.Let the lawyer decide what is or is not in your favour. It is better for the lawyer to know the bad things from the beginning, rather than being astonished later.
· If the lawyer wants to represent you, will know that he will pass by an educational process with you. You should take time to make a honest evaluation of your position and to be able to join together your ideas with lawyer. Give freedom of action to your lawyer.
· The lawyer can give you alternatives as to what you can do, and you should discuss the possible consequences of each option. Seek the legal advice practices which in your own opinion translates a good sense of business.
· The lawyer can even be able to give you advice on the way in which to proceed.
For example, if your business was sued and you must respond to the lawsuit immediately, make sure that a lawyer obtains the resolution as soon as possible. Towards the end of your meeting, you should set out again with a clear arrangement of what you have achieved.
· If the lawyer has been willing to take your case, you will have to agree on the invoicing of the services. The lawyer should explain , read and include/understand the document before you think about signing it. At this time or before services are provided, you can also be invited to provide documents.
· Be clear on the continuation of the project and then to be sure to include/understand what your lawyer invited you to do. The lawyer will insist on your co-operation. If it is not clearly defined in an prior agreement, ask him how he would prefer to communicate with you, and keep a regular contact with him then.
· You would not have met a lawyer if you were not ready initially to rent his services. Thus think of bringing a cheque book and/or a credit card to pay fees if the lawyer asks for it. To keep in mind that the lawyers cost much money and one has to expect to pay their services. From the point of view of a lawyer, a customer who is not very willing to pay in the beginning for a good legal advice can not be laid out to pay in the long term.
